TERI- My full name is Theresa warner (used to be Groombridge) and everyone usually calls me Teri.
I am a qualified and insured Instructor and horse/pony trainer.
I have experience teaching riders of all ages and abilities, from little tots right upto fellow staff members. These lessons have included training for exams, competitions and running pony club sessions. I used to be the british dressage list of trainers as well as a while training to be a trainee dressage judge. I mostly like to focus my time now working on improving my knowledge on equine behaviour and how they have an effect on human wellness.
I am qualified in Equine psychology, this has given me a different approach to the work that I do with with my horses and handlers/riders. This has lead to many new and interesting exercises including horse agility.
SANDRA- AKA yard mum.
Sandra is our very capable yard manager, She holds her BHS groombs certificate (stage 3) Sandra is in charge of overseeing the smooth day to day running of the yard here at Merrywood, getting the orders sorted, monitoring the horses and generally keeping the rest of us organised.
Sandra is a mum of 3 (one of which is me) she also has a strong background in childcare, having worked at nursery schools and even setting up and running her own toddler group. Sandra is amazing at using these skills to create and caring atmosphere at the yard both for our liveries and childrens clubs.
I (Teri) started riding at 6 years old, i began riding with the local riding school, i quickly convinced them to allow me to become a helper. I grew up helping them with the buyng, selling and breaking of riding school ponies and also got my first taste of teaching. Sandra was a very non horsey mum, she was afraid of horses and often complained of the smell.
My first pony was a retired riding school pony called willow, a gorgeous 14'1 grey, veteran mare, I moved willow to a DIY yard and had a lot of fun with her, however she would not load and was not really a competition minded pony so Shows and Events were never an option. This is where Sandra began to understand my passion, she began helping with mucking out and eventually we convinced her to climb on board.
We began working for Elly at Silvermere Equestrian centre in 1999 myself as a trainee and Sandra was roped in a saturday girl, since then we have achieved our BHS exams including the grooms certificate and my BHSAI.
I bought my horse Alexsander from our pony dealer in 2002, he was a very weak 6 year old, We started to event together in september in 2004 and
went on to have a fantastic time competing for over a decade, with dad driving the lorry and Sandra as my reliable groom, it really was a fanily affair.
I was awarded an EHOA training bursary in 2008, which enabled some amazing training with trainers such as Pippa Funnell, Rob stevens, J-P Sheffield and Team GB coaches Tracie Robinson and Kenneth Clawson.
I gave birth to my child, Aaron on the 4th febuary 2011, this has given me a whole new challenge... but us riders love a challenge!!
After having Aaron i continued to event and compete at british dressage.
, I was awarded the shearwater owner/rider trophy presented by susan and jeremy lawton in 2014 and attended the EHOA awards dinner amongst many amazing top riders.
I unfortunately suffered a nasty back injury in 2015 and this lead me to take a part time job in PR and Marketing with Creative Equine, an amazing experience and i learned so many new skills.
Sandra and I now are reunited in our latest and most exciting challenge of all, setting up a brand new livery and training centre at Merrywood farm in Lyne, Surrey.
We have unfortunately Lost Alexsander now, which broke our hearts but we do still have our beautiful old boy Celtic and our very loving spanish horse Tolon as well as our fantastic team of ponies.....
