september update 2014

It seems to be a bit of a pattern with these updates that the year starts well and goes downhill....

Alex seemed to be going well and i was feeling positive about our summer plans and maybe even some winter jumping as he had been really enjoying popping some low fences, we managed a lovely trip to woolgars which had been a long time ambition or mum and i to take the boys, however on the way home celtic almost collapsed on the lorry and we think he had over heated but it was very scary!

Alex went out to dressage a few weeks later at priory and warmed up really well but when entering the outdoor school it all went down hill, the arena is very deep going and i now think he tweaked something as he then decided he would not load to go home (he has loaded well for about 10 years)

We popped our entry in to oldencraig and just thought would give it another go, however when running through our test a few days before he tripped and pulled up hopping lame, after a few days rest he was better but soon went lame again with any execise so the vet was called and the scan ha to be booked, sadly this showed us a nasty tear behind the knee in his superfical flexor tendon... and a prognosis of 6 months box rest and retirement. A few weeks before this happened i had been looking around at future young horse and stumbled across nelson, a RID yearling gelding with clover hill lines on his mums side, I decided to gamble and buy him.... watch this space for his progress!!

On the upside for alex i have invested in an arc equine machine machine that uses micro electric currents to aid healing and replace damaged tissue, in the hope that it can speed his recovery and assisted by corrective shoeing keep him sound and injury free!!

I am also going back to work an extra day at badshot lea EC, as well as continuing to enjoy teaching the staff lessons and some schooling on wednesdays.... at least i am keeping busy!!!
